Debco Native Mix

Debco Native Mix is ideal for native Australian plants and proteas.

There are a large number of native Australian and South African plants that are intolerant of large amounts of phosphorus found in most potting mixes.  Commonly affected genera include members of the proteaceae family such as grevillea, banksia, hakea, protea, leucadendron and leucospermum.  Australian members of the pea family, including Acacia, are also commonly affected.

There is a need for a special potting mix to suite these plants.  When purchasing natives there is a great chance that they have been grown in Debco Native Mix by the grower.

Debco's Native Mix is a specifically formulated mix combining Debco's superior composting technology to produce a high-quality potting mix for phosphorus-sensitive plants.  The open, well-drained formula ensures a balance of air and water availability to give the best results for your potted native plants.

Features and benefits of Debco Native Mix include:

- Lightweight formulation.

- Australian Standard "Premium" potting mix.

- Low-phosphorus formula.

- Contains SaturAid soil wetter to improve water penetration to

  the root zone.

- Contains a special Debco fertiliser suitable for natives.

How to use Debco Native Mix

Assemble your plants to be repotted, along with fresh containers and Debco Native Mix.
Give each plant a thorough watering an hour or so in advance, and allow to drain.
Select a clean container approximately 25 mm wider than the original and partly fill with Debco Native Mix, straight from the bag.
Turn the plant out of its old container. Loosen root ball gently and remove any rotten or entirely dried out roots.
Position the plant in the centre of the new container. Check the level and fill with new mix.
Shake the container gently by tapping the bottom on the ground to allow mix to settle. Do not firm or pack down. Normal watering will soon give all the firming needed.
Initial soaking after potting is essential.
Protect plant from heat and strong sunlight for a few days, and keep moist.

Hints

To save time, re-pot as many plants as possible at the one time.  Make sure that you close the bag tightly after use to keep moist.  Store in a cool, dry location.

“Choosing the right potting mix is very important. A good mix isn’t just thrown together - it contains just the right proportion of airspace, water holding capacity and concentration of nutrients for good plant growth. I always look for a potting mix which displays the Australian Standards endorsement - so I know I am getting a good product.”
