Debco potting mix - success is in the bag.
When to use Debco Cacti & Succulent Mix
Move container plants into larger containers of
fresh Cacti & Succulent Mix at regular intervals. Cacti can be re-potted
most times of the year.
Whilst roots protruding from drainage holes are
an indication that re-potting is necessary, the only sure way to
discover the state of the roots is to remove the cactus or succulent from its
container and examine them carefully. If fresh root tips are showing
all over the surface of the root ball, or forming a thick spiral
at the base, then re-potting is necessary.
How to use Debco Cacti & Succulent Mix
 |
Remove your cactus or succulent from its
old pot. |
 |
Remove loose soil from the root
ball, selecting a new pot one size up from the old pot. |
 |
Place some mix in the bottom
of the new pot (mix must be moist, not wet,
prior to potting). Then position your cactus or succulent in the pot. Spread the Cacti
& Succulent Mix carefully around the plant roots. |
 |
Tap the freshly potted plant
lightly on the bench or table to settle the soil in the pot.
|
 |
Shake the container gently by
tapping the bottom on the ground to allow mix to settle.
Do not firm or pack down. Normal watering will soon give all
the firming needed. |
 |
Initial soaking after potting
is essential. |
 |
Protect plant from heat and
strong sunlight for a few days, and keep moist. |
Hints
To save time, re-pot as many cacti or succulents as possible
at the one time. Make sure that you close the bag tightly after
use to keep moist. Store in a cool, dry location.
Fertilising: Cacti and succulents do require nourishment and after
one year in the same pot a regular feeding pattern is best established.
Use only low nitrogen slow-release granular fertiliser or a quality
liquid low nitrogen fertiliser.
Watering: To grow cacti and succulents successfully, regular watering
patterns are necessary. When watering, a good soaking is essential
and then a period of time should elapse to allow the soil to almost
dry out. In the case of a small pot in a hot sunny position, this
could be every day to two days. In a cool, sunless position it might
be one to three months. The larger the pot, the longer it can go
between waterings. However, in winter cacti and succulents like to remain dry with
watering recommencing in spring.
Position: Sunlight is very important for Cacti
growth and flowering. The more sun available, the better the shape,
colour and spine formation will be on the plant. |
