Debcote

Plants require ample, but not excessive, fertiliser during the growing season. There is a need for essential elements such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium to be supplied in a controlled release form so that the fertiliser is not being wasted and available throughout the growing seasons.

This Debcote formulation has been developed to give a proportion of immediately available nutrient plus a reserve for long term growth and development. It also contains a proportion of granulated seaweed to enhance root development. Debcote is a blend of polymer coated controlled release fertiliser, faster releasing prills and granulated seaweed. The polyon coat is a non-porous polymer coating which controls nutrient release for specific time periods. The time of release is determined by the thickness of the coating and is influenced by the temperature of the soil. This is important because plant growth is also largely dependant on temperature which means that the fertiliser will usually be releasing in synchronisation with the plants needs. The release is essentially unaffected by soil type, moisture level, pH or microbial activity.

Seaweed has long been a gardeners favourite for a variety of qualities not available in fertilisers. These have been identified as properties arising from plant hormones which are found in rich supply in well preserved seaweed products.

Seaweed products are normally supplied as a liquid often combined with other fertilisers. There is a need for a granular fertiliser of similar nature. Seaorganic is a solid slow release seaweed granule fortified with extra nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. It already contains the important nutrients calcium and magnesium and is rich in natural trace elements and sulphur. The slow release properties are achieved by compaction of the granules so that they won’t readily dissolve.
