Garden Room Details
The Debco Garden Room is designed to be a whimsical expression of the formal courtyard garden. Modern design elements such as mulch covered walls, copper uprights, abstract artworks and an organic resin water feature contrast against a formal, symmetrical, garden design.
The mulch-covered walls are designed to emphasise the beauty and texture of Debco Mulch 'N' Feed potting mix. The mulch has been glued and then clear sealed with polyurethane to stabilise the surface. On each side of the space and fixed to the walls are two rows of copper poles. These appear to support the wall like flying buttresses but are in fact designed to exaggerate the perspective of the room, give structure and scale to the immature flora and to draw the eye to back wall.
At the centre of the back wall, floating in the reflection pond, is an orange water sculpture, of staked oversized resin balls. The sculpture sits in front of a mirror framed by an arch of sandstone pool coping. The mirror creates the illusion of an opening to a walled garden that exists beyond the arch, imitating the perspective of a traditional walled garden.
Completing the room are two abstract artworks, painted using exterior grade paint on water resistant board. The randomness of their subject contrasts with their deliberate scale and symmetrical placement, which is intended to create balance and harmony to the space.
Plants have been selected for their hint of copper or claret coloured foliage and their tolerance to drought conditions. The feature plant tree is Magnolia Grandiflora “Little Gem” selected for the copper tone of the underside of it’s leaf. Below these is a hedge row of Escallonia, its deep green foliage and pink spring flower is contrasted against the dark claret leaf of the Myrtus ugni. The lawn species is Zoysia Empire, a drought hardy fine lawn species ideal for a fine quality lawn.
The potting mix used here is Debco Mulch 'N' Feed – a soil mulching and conditioning product containing;
SaturAid, a Garden Water Maximiser that assists to break the surface tension of soil water to improve water penetration.
Debcote – a controlled release fertiliser, that contains a formula of plant nutrients, which provide a balance of strong root growth, foliage growth and flowering that will not increase the plants susceptibility to drought.
Soil Breaking Compound – A liquid clay breaker which helps break up clay soils to also improve water penetration.
Composted Pine Bark which has been blended to provide to a balance of fine and coarse particle that will assist with soil conditioning and provide excellent mulching properties.
